The annual event will be held at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center. Local author Teresa Marrone will be hand to talk about her new book "Modern Maple" too.

Editor's note: The following news release was submitted by Nancy Robbins, a publicity volunteer for the Harriet Alexander Nature Center:

Curious about how maple syrup comes from tree sap? Come find out at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center the weekend of March 23-24 (Saturday and Sunday) for the annual "It's Tapping Time!" event.

Join us on either day (or both!) for a great family outing. We'll be there from 10am-4pm both days – drop-in when you want, stay as long as you wish.

We'll demonstrate how to tap maple trees, collect the sap and cook it down to make delicious maple syrup. You can learn about traditional syruping methods, listen to Native American stories, make a fun craft and taste maple treats.

And Kinderberry Hill of Roseville will be giving away free maple tree seedlings, one per family. No charge for this sweet family outing!

Teresa Marrone, local author of the just-published book, Modern Maple, will be dropping in on Sunday, March 24 at our It's Tapping Time! event. She’ll help us show visitors the entire syruping process and talk about some of her maple syrup recipes.

Marrone's book "celebrates this local treasure in ways both traditional and contemporary, with seventy-five recipes using maple to season, flavor, and sweeten dishes." She's promised to bring some tasty maple treats to share, and is expected to  have copies of her book for purchase.
