Metropolitan Council Looking to Fill Vacancy on District 10 Seat

District 10 territory includes Roseville. Metro Council also seeking applicants for its Parks and Recreation Commission. Application deadline is Sept. 24.

The Metropolitan Council  is seeking to fill its open seat for District 10, which represents Roseville and several other cities in Ramsey and Anoka counties. 

Interested persons who live in District 10 may fill out an online application form, or contact or visit the Secretary of State’s office at 180 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., St. Paul, MN, 55155-1299.

Applications are due to the Secretary of State’s office by Sept. 24. Gov. Dayton’s Nominating Committee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the governor, who will make the appointment.

Besides Roseville, District 10 also includes the Anoka County cities of Blaine, Circle Pines and Lexington, and Ramsey County cities of Arden Hills, Blaine, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, Shoreview, and Spring Lake Park.
Meanwhile, the Met Council is also seeking applicants for its Parks and Open Space Commission (MPOSC). All of the commission's nine seats are up for appointment in the wake of recent redistricting.

The Commission helps the Council develop long-range plans for the metro area’s system of regional parks, park reserves and trails.

Eight citizen members on the commission represent geographic districts in the region. The chair serves at large.

Interested individuals must return a completed application form  to the Secretary of State’s office by the end of the day on Sept. 24. They must also attend one of three public meetings in October to address the MPOSC Appointments Committee, composed of five members of the Metropolitan Council.

Candidates must live in the district for which they apply. Terms for half the districts, Districts A, B, C and D, end in January 2015. Terms for the remaining geographic districts, Districts E, F, G and H, end in January 2017. The chair’s at-large position also serves a term ending in January 2017. The committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Council’s offices in St. Paul.
