She displayed strength, courage and humor until the end of her battle with COPD, her family writes.

Irene Lucy Helme, 94, passed away on Friday evening, June 14, at her home in Sunrise of Roseville. She displayed strength, courage and humor until the end of her battle with COPD. She was born on September 11, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to Walter and Wvadyslawa Trinkler. She was the youngest of two children.
Irene enjoyed interacting with friends and family in cards, games and travel. She had a quest for knowledge in areas of finance, current events, medical news and political causes. She was a lover and supporter of the arts, especially classical music.
Irene is survived by her two daughters and son, and their spouses: Laura (Jemison), Susan (Gesch) and Randy, and Peter (Helme) and Rebecca. She was a loving grandmother to Caitlin and Case Jemison; and Nyssa, Kristofor and Matthew Gesch. Irene donated her body for scientific research in lieu of a wake and funeral proceedings. Family members attended a classical music concert in her honor. Her indomitable spirit will be missed.
