Slight Increase in City Property Taxes, Utility Costs Ahead for Roseville Homeowners

The City Council is expected in December to adopt the final 2014 budget and levy.

Roseville homeowners can expect to see a slight increase in their 2014 property taxes and monthly water and sewer bills based on recent City Council.

The Roseville Council earlier this month set a preliminary tax levy for 2014 at $18.02 million. That's an increase of $758,895 or 4.4 percent compared with the 2013 tax levy.

Most of the proposed increase ($560,000) is needed to cover added  debt service on bonds that were issued to finance Roseville's Park Renewal program, city officials said in a news update. The remaining increase will help maintain day-to-day operations, they noted.

"Based on the preliminary levy, the estimated property tax increase on a median valued home in Roseville will be $4.47 per month. Homeowners can also expect an increase in their water and sewer bill of approximately $2.25 per month. The increase is necessary to offset added costs related to water and storm sewer infrastructure projects and for wastewater treatment costs paid to the Metropolitan Council."

Despite the city's planned increases,  Roseville’s taxes and fees remain below average compared to metropolitan area peer communities," city officials said.

The City Council is expected to adopt the final 2014 budget and levy at its Dec.r 2 meeting. The Council plans to set time aside at that meeting to take citizen comments and uestions before it takes a final vote.
