Unattended cooking is the leading cause of the fires. Most fires are preventable. Roseville firefighters encourage you to talk with your family about fire safety and follow these important steps to keep everyone safe.

  • Do not leave the kitchen when frying, grilling or broiling food. If you must leave, turn off the heat source.
  • Keep anything that could catch fire – oven mitts, utensils, cookbooks, food packaging, towels or curtains away from the stovetop.
  • Avoid cooking if you are tired or have consumed alcohol.
  • If you have a kitchen fire, get out immediately and call 9-1-1.

Firefighters encourage households to have at least one fire extinguisher in the home. Typically, the best option for a fire extinguisher for household use is an ABC extinguisher that can fight trash, wood, paper, liquids, grease and electrical equipment fires.
