SAINT PAUL, MN — The days of malts and cheeseburgers at Snuffy’s Malt Shop in Saint Paul are numbered. The 36-year-old restaurant on Cleveland Avenue has announced it will close July 25. The location has been around since 1983.

The reason for the shocking move? Dana Bach, the vice president of marketing for Snuffy's, says property-tax and rent increases — along with compliance issues regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act — are to blame.

"With a heavy heart we decided not to sign a new lease on our Highland location," Bach told the Pioneer Press. "It’s a really sad time for us."

"It’s making it tough for us to continue operating at this location," Bach added.

The three other Snuffy’s Malt Shop restaurants, located in Edina, Minnetonka, and Bloomington, will stay open.
