Elderly Couple Fights Over Onion Breath

This week, police in Saint Paul responded to a domestic assault involving a couple battling over onion breath.

SAINT PAUL, MN—This week, police in Saint Paul responded to a domestic assault involving a couple battling over onion breath.

When officers got to the home on the 600 block of Ottawa, they spoke to a 78-year-old man who told them he'd been eating raw onions all night in an effort to keep from contracting the coronavirus.

His 77-year-old wife asked him to put on a mask because she didn't appreciate his onion breath, according to police. He took offense and began to hit her police said.

A neighbor heard the commotion and called for help.

The man was arrested.

The woman, who had visible injuries, was offered help and support through the Blueprint for Safety protocols, which are designed to help survivors of domestic abuse break the cycle of violence.

She is expected to physically recover.
