Gov. Walz Declares State Of Emergency To Help Stranded Motorists
The Minnesota National Guard will assist with search and rescue operations in Renville County.

SAINT PAUL, MN — Gov. Tim Walz Thursday night declared a peacetime state of emergency and ordered the Minnesota National Guard to provide assistance and emergency relief services for stranded motorists in Renville County.
Heavy snow and strong winds have stranded motorists in Renville County and winter storms are expected to create dangerous conditions for people traveling through the area, according to a news release.
The Minnesota National Guard will assist with search and rescue operations and has opened the Olivia Armory as a shelter.

No travel advisory has been expanded to all or portions of Lac qui Parle, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Lincoln, Lyon and Redwood counties. MN state plows are continuing to operate during the storm in southwest MN.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for counties including Stevens, Lac Qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Yellow, Medicine, Renville, and Redwood.
