After 45 years, the iconic Saint Paul festival has been canceled for this year.

SAINT PAUL, MN — After 45 years, the Grand Avenue Business Association has canceled the 2019 Grand Old Day event. "It was a difficult and unanimous decision but one that the board of directors made to keep the event fresh for 2020," said interim president Allison Penner-Hurst in a statement Tuesday.

Grand Old Day typically happened on the first Sunday of June.

The Grand Avenue Business Association, a non-profit, added the following statement below:

"Small family owned businesses and the Grand Avenue Business Association have been the backbone of this event for the past 45-years. It is our wish to make sure we produce a successful, safe, and fun event next year. We will be looking to the community for input to create an event that reflects the traditions and interests of the businesses and neighbors who call Grand Avenue home."

Several commenters on Facebook were dismayed by the news.

"Oof. As a small business I was counting on this event and already upping my inventory," wrote Jeremy Swede Nilson.
