Minnesota Public Radio Wins Peabody For Philando Castile Podcast

SAINT PAUL, MN — Minnesota Public Radio has received a George Foster Peabody Award for its in-depth reporting on the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile that was captured in its podcast, "74 Seconds." It's the fourth time the prestigious broadcast media award as been given to MPR and the tenth for American Public Media.
The podcast tells the story of the July 2016 traffic stop in Falcon Heights that ended with the world watching a man’s final moments live on their phones. It discusses the life of Philando Castile and the officer who was tried for his death, Jeronimo Yanez. MPR examined the intersection of race, policing, justice and safety in America.
To date, "74 Seconds" has nearly 2 million downloads, according to MPR.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award,” Nancy Cassutt, executive director of MPR News and Programming, said in a statement.
