Minnesota Weather: Second Round of Snow Falls in Twin Cities

Prepare for a messy evening commute Friday. A winter storm warning is in effect from noon Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The winter storm has arrived. Snowfall at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport reports an overnight total of 0.6 in.

After a relative lull Friday morning, snow will redevelop rapidly during the early afternoon and become heavy at times through the evening, affecting commuting times.

Total snow accumulations of 8 to 11 inches are expected across much of the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota into central and southern Wisconsin, with amounts tapering off gradually to the north.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in effect from noon Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday. A wind chill warning will then go into effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.

Dangerously cold air will arrive Saturday night with lows 20 below zero and wind chills of 35 to 45 below.

Friday night

Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 4. East northeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Saturday

A 40 percent chance of snow before noon. Cloudy and cold, with a temperature falling to around 5 below zero by 5 p.m. Wind chill values as low as 23 below zero. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday night

Mostly clear, with a low around 20 below zero. Wind chill values as low as 32 below zero. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday

Sunny and cold, with a high near 6 below zero. West wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday night

Partly cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 2 by 5 a.m. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
