Saint Paul Announces Closure Of Playgrounds, Sports Courts, And Skate Parks

SAINT PAUL – The City of Saint Paul today announced the closure of playgrounds, sports courts, and skate parks, in accordance with Governor Walz’s extension of the “Stay at Home” executive order.

The closures come in response to the recent seasonal increase in demand for use of recreational amenities combined with a concern for public safety, as social distancing cannot be managed during these activities.

“We appreciate the need to recreate and connect with nature during these new and challenging times, but safety remains our top priority. We are making these adjustments to serve park users while limiting their risk and also that of others,” said Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Director Mike Hahm. “We ask that everyone be respectful of one another, maintain 6 feet of space from anyone not in their household, and refrain from making judgments or assumptions about other park users.”

Basketball hoops will be removed, tennis courts locked, and multilingual closure signage will be posted at playgrounds and similar features in the coming days.

Parks, trails, open spaces, dog parks, and athletic fields remain open, with restrictions, including 6 foot social distancing. No pickup games, contact sports, or organized teams are allowed. A full list of amenity closures and park restrictions can be found at www.stpaul.gov/parks-covid19.
