Saint Paul Public School Publishes Coronavirus Update For May 13

"On May 6, Gov. Walz issued new updates to the state’s COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. In general, these updates do not apply to school districts in Minnesota. SPPS and all other school districts are still following the Minnesota Department of Education’s Safe Learning Plan for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

Below is a summary of what is, and what is not, changing following this announcement:

Face coverings

Face coverings are still required for all students and staff who are medically able to wear them in school buildings and on buses. Following the latest guidance about outdoor settings, face masks are not required at recess or other outdoor activities during the school day.

Following the Minnesota State High School League’s updated guidance, face coverings are no longer required for student athletes, coaches or spectators during outdoor practices or competitions. For more information, visit spps.org/sports.

Graduations and End-of-Year Celebrations

The Class of 2021 will celebrate with in-person commencement ceremonies at the beginning of June. A set number of guests will be allowed per graduate. Ceremonies will be livestreamed and recorded for those who cannot attend in person. Learn more at spps.org/graduation.

SPPS high schools will not be hosting in-person prom, honors nights or scheduling field trips this school year. School-based activities will be allowed; however guests will not be allowed at indoor events. Principals will inform families about any events happening at their school.

Summer Learning Programs

Summer Learning Programs begin on June 21 and group sizes will be limited to 25 students. Guidelines regarding face coverings and other COVID-19 protocols will be communicated to registered families. For more information or to register, visit spps.org/summer."
