St. Paul Saints Are Giving Away $10,000 Tuesday Over Social Media
The St. Paul Saints are out $10,000 after UMBC defeated Virginia in the biggest upset in college basketball history.

SAINT PAUL, MN — A local baseball team that came out on the loser's side of a big bet is making good on its promise today. The St. Paul Saints are giving away $10,000 to one lucky social media user after No. 16 seed Maryland-Baltimore County crushed No. 1 overall seed Virginia in a historic upset last week.
You might be asking what on Earth the St. Paul Saints have to do with March Madness, and why they're giving away money because of a game that took place a thousand miles away. Good question.
Before the NCAA tournament started, Saints general manager Derek Sharrer made a promise to give away $10,000 if a No. 16 seed beat a No. 1 seed. It had never happened before in the history of the tournament, so his money seemed safe.

We don't have a billion dollars like @WarrenBuffett, but our GM @DerekSharrer has officially gone mad. The Saints will give away $10,000 if a 16 seed beats a 1 seed in #MarchMadness2018. All you have to do is retweet this to enter & we'll choose one winner if it happens.

That was until Baltimore's senior guard Jairus Lyles scored 28 points and UMBC shocked the world, defeating Virginia 74-54.
The Saints and their owner Derek Sharrer — now out $10,000 — skyrocketed to national Twitter fame over the course of the weekend:

"Someone on our staff, who shall remain nameless, brought this idea to me and said it was a foolproof promotion," joked Sharrer. "Now, thanks to this former staff member, I mean, this creative genius, we are going to make someone’s day by giving them $10,000."
The contest will take place live at 1 p.m. Tuesday via Facebook Live on the Saints Facebook page.
