
High-stakes races have helped Canterbury Park draw larger, revitalizing crowds, according to the Star Tribune.
The track has seen betting jump by 22 percent this summer, and dealt with over $1 million in bets over a series of races on July 3 and 4. Purses are up 18 percent on average, the paper reports.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for,’’ the track's president said. “It is a breakthrough for horse racing in Minnesota. And it’s only the first step. We think things will continue to improve.’’
Enhanced marketing has also played a role, he said.
