Four Public Hearings Scheduled For January 7 In Shakopee City

It is anticipated that some or all of the members of the Planning Commission will participate In The Meeting.

Four public hearings are planned for the Jan. 7 Planning Commission/Board of Adjustment and Appeals meeting. Hearings will be held to consider:

  • Rezoning of land used for parks and open space to Parks and Open Space (PO) District. The city is requesting the rezoning of 47 properties, which are either city-owned park land or land utilized for parks and/or open space, to create a consistent zoning district and add more clarity within the zoning map. Additionally, new rules and regulations for park uses were established with the new Parks and Open Space district.
  • Text and density amendments to the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The city is proposing several changes to the plan's chapter 5A Built Environment to reflect changing development patterns.
  • Zoning text amendment to City Code 151.085-151.094, the Floodplain Overlay Zone. Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) has recently updated the Flood Zone maps for Scott County. To ensure properties are eligible for the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program, floodplain ordinances must be amended to adopt specific model ordinance language and reference the new map panels.
  • A conditional use permit for an over-height utility structure substation. Shakopee Public Utilities plans to construct an over-height electrical distribution substation at 2022 Colburn Drive.

It is anticipated that some or all of the members of the Planning Commission will participate in the Jan. 7, 2021, meeting by video conference rather than by being personally present at the City Hall council chambers, 485 Gorman St., Shakopee.
