Chanhassen Player Part of Historic U of M Women's Hockey Team

Jordyn Burns of Chanhassen helped the Gophers to a second straight title and a 49-game winning streak.

Benilde-St. Margaret's graduate Jordyn Burns of Chanhassen finished her sophomore year in the University of Minnesota women's hockey program in a big way Sunday, as the Gophers won a second straight NCAA title, capping off an unprecedented, undefeated season.

The team's 49-game winning streak extended past the 2012–13 record of 41-0, to include eight wins from the end of the 2011–12 season.

Here's more on Burns from a January interview:

Q: Why did you end up deciding to come back to your home state?
A: I went out to Syracuse for a year, and it was an experience. I grew up a lot, but the culture out there was really different, the people (were different). The hockey was a lot different than I’m used to. Coming home, being closer to the family, and playing the hockey that I grew up playing made it an easy decision to come back.

Q: What are some things you learned at Syracuse?
A: I grew up a lot because I was so far away from home. That’s one of the biggest things.

Q: Before you chose Syracuse, were you thinking about coming to Minnesota while you were in high school?
A: I definitely was, but I always wanted to go away. That was always one of my dreams growing up, to go out east, get away, see what it was like to go away. I definitely like that I did that, but coming home has definitely been a lot better. I’m happy that I did that. I wouldn’t take it away, but it’s been great to be back home.

Q: How does it feel to represent the biggest school in your home state on the ice?
A: It’s really great. Coming out with all the fans, all the little girls who really look up to you, it’s really been amazing. Almost every time I step on the ice when I go out for a game, I have a smile on my face.

Q: How did you jell with the team when you transferred?
A: It was hard at first because I’m not that outgoing. But the upperclassmen did a great job of inviting the new people to come out with them, have fun, hang out with them, go see movies. So they made it really easy.

Q: After the Gophers won the championship last year, it had to feel even better to come home.
A: That was just icing on the cake, if you will. It was good because I was excited to be part of such a successful team and was excited for the next season after that, because we had so much to prove. I just couldn’t wait to be a part of the team going for back-to-back championships.

Q: What are you looking forward to the rest of the season?
A: I’m definitely looking forward to gaining more relationships with the girls as well as becoming a better team, and hopefully contributing more to the team.
