Horse Wins $50,000 in Weekend Race

Last week's Frances Genter Stakes at Canterbury Park left one horse and one jockey likely pretty pleased with themselves, according to a press release issued by officials at the track.

The release credited jockey Scott Stevens' "torrid early pace and deft ride" for Badge of Glory's win on Thursday. The pair won a $50,000 prize. According to race officials' account:

"Wagering favorite Blue Moon Magic and jockey Derek Bell were chased early by Sentiment Gray and Juan Rivera, scorching through an opening quarter mile of 21.67 seconds and half mile of 44.66. Stevens allowed Badge of Glory to settle toward the back of the 11-filly field 14 lengths from the pace setter. Stevens swung Badge of Glory wide out of the turn, passing horses in the stretch. She got the better of a staggering Bleu Moon Magic in the late stages and held off a late charge by 54-1 Sultry Queen to win by two lengths in 1:12.47 over a fast track."

Badge of Glory is a 3-year old filly, and last won the 2012 Northern Lights Debutante stakes in September. Until last week, she had not won in six starts.

She is expected to run in the Aug. 10, $75,000 Minnesota Oaks race.
