Savage Area Women of Today - Gifts of Gratitude

Savage Area Women of Today - Gifts of Gratitude

On Thursday, November 13, the Savage Area Women of Today met for an event they called Gifts of Gratitude. A few craftier members searched for some fun gift ideas for people around the community, then turned them into a simple assembly line style event where 16 adults and 5 children were able to assemble gifts and socialize. The group assembled 120 cocoa packets to give to local police and fire people, 77 sock cupcakes for seniors in local nursing homes, 8 fleece blankets for children in the hospital, and signed 255 cards to send to troops. Thank you to all the members and guests who attended or made a donation!

The Savage Area Women of Today is a chapter of the Minnesota Women of Today which was founded in 1950 as the Mrs. Jaycees of Minnesota. In 1985, the organization separated from the Jaycee organization and became the Minnesota Women of Today. The Savage Area chapter was founded in August of 2010 has been serving the community ever since. They currently have 11 members and are seeking more members to help them make a bigger difference in the community. Membership is open to anyone over 18 years old. The chapter holds a variety of events throughout the year focused on giving back to the community, personal growth of their members, as well as social and networking opportunities. In addition to their recent large events, the chapter has held many smaller events including assisting at the Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women annual gala, cleaning local parks, a monthly book club, an annual Father’s Day card making event, sponsorship of a local Little Free Library, repackaging laundry detergent for the CAP Agency food shelf, and an annual Un-Birthday party to create birthday bags for the CAP Agency food shelf.
