Council approves plat for new Valley Crest residential development
The City Council approved a preliminary plat of Valley Crest at 1868 Mystic Lake Drive S. The council also approved rezoning the 56.2 acres from Agricultural Preservation to Planned Unit Development. Magellan Land Development and M/I Homes plan to build three different single-family unit styles in the development: 45 carriage homes, 68 villa homes and 62 single-family homes. The project will also include open space and trail network through the development. The main entrance locations are Thrush Street, Avon Lane and Karner Drive. Council awards contracts for 2021 road and utility projects
The City Council awarded contracts in the amounts of:
- $1,007,869.66 to SM Hentges & Sons, Inc., for the 2021 Street and Utility Reconstruction Project.
- $2,539,198.69 to Wm. Mueller & Sons, Inc., for the 2021 Bituminous Pavement Rehabilitation Project.
- $59,098.49 to MP Asphalt Maintenance, Inc., for the 2021 Trail Sealcoating. The 2021 trail sealcoating includes approximately 71,203 square yards of bituminous trail along various streets, county roads and within city parks.

SHIP Community Garden to locate at Main Street and 10th Avenue
The City Council approved an agreement with Scott County Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) to allow for the construction of a fenced-in community garden space on city and Shakopee Public Utilities-owned land near 10th Avenue and Main Street. Community members are able to rent beds and garden together, and the CAP Agency will also use the space to grow produce for food shelf participants. Council orders sewer extension project in east Shakopee
Following a public hearing, the City Council ordered improvements and preparation of plans and specifications for the Utility Extension - Maras Street, 13th Avenue and Hansen Avenue Project. The project will extend sanitary sewer and water services to the properties adjacent to Maras Street, 13th Avenue, Hansen Avenue and Stagecoach Road. The estimated total project cost is $5,368,000. City to create a ‘Made in Shakopee’ brand to celebrate Shakopee businesses
Acting as the Economic Development Authority, the City Council approved contracts in the amount of $50,000 each with Momentum for entrepreneurial consulting services and Integrated Marketing and Design for a branding campaign. The city plans to unveil a six-month marketing campaign to build the Shakopee business brand across the region. It will focus on entrepreneurs and companies that might consider moving or building a facility in Shakopee. More information: Michael Kerski, Director of Planning & Development, 952-233-9346.
Council approves annexation and zoning changes
The City Council approved annexing .34 acres in Jackson Township and zoning the parcel to Light Industry (I-1). In addition, the council also rezoned property at 1725 Third Ave. W. from Highway Business (B-1) to Light Industry (I-1). Citywide Insulation plans to expand its building on the property. However, because a portion of the property was outside city limits, it could not be expanded without annexation. More information: Mark Noble, Senior Planner, 952-233-9348.
Council approves rezoning properties
The City Council approved the rezoning the following properties:
- 3.66 acres located at Vierling Drive West and Lincoln Street from High Density Residential Zone (R-4) to Multiple Family Residential District (R-3) to allow for construction of townhomes. More information: PeggySue Imihy, Senior Planner, 952-233-9325.
- 4.25 combined acres at 7380 and 7480 County Highway 101 from Highway Business (B-1) to Heavy Industry (I-2) to allow for the construction of a multi-tenant industrial building. More information: Kyle Sobota, Senior Planner, 952-233-9349.
Equipment upgrade to improve meeting broadcasts
The City Council approved an agreement in the amount of $104,624.95 with Advanced Systems Integration, Inc. for the upgrade of broadcasting equipment in the City Council Chambers.
