Council awards contract for AUAR, Stagecoach Park and Fire Station improvement project

The City Council awarded contracts with:
- Stantec for an amount not to exceed $250,000 for completion of a Master Plan and Alternative Urban Areawide Review (AUAR) for approximately 500 acres west of County Highway 83. The property, which is bounded by Valley View Drive, County Highway 42 and County Highway 83, has received multiple development inquiries. An AUAR will help coordinate the street and utility infrastructure necessary to support future proposed development. - Northwest Asphalt in the amount of $118,323.85 for the Stagecoach Park Project. The project includes the construction of the 2-acre park in east Shakopee. The project includes a picnic table and grill, natural and hard surface trails, turf lawn area and native prairie restoration. Construction is anticipated to start May. - Minnesota Roadways Co. in the amount of $154,707.78 for the Fire Station 1 Parking Lot Concrete Paving. The project includes reconstructing the parking lot at Fire Station 1 with a concrete drive lane and bituminous parking stalls. More information: Adam Bentson, Graduate Engineer, 952-233-9323.
Council rezones property for electrical substation
The City Council approved rezoning property at 2022 Colburn Drive from Highway Business (B-1) Zone to Light Industry (I-1) Zone. Shakopee Public Utilities plans to build an over-height electrical distribution substation at this site, which was not allowed as a conditional use under the previous zoning. Council approves 2021 Street and Utility Reconstruction Project
The City Council approved plans and specifications and ordered the advertisement for bids for the 2021 Street and Utility Reconstruction Project. The project includes the street and utility reconstruction for portions of Scott Street, Levee Drive, Fuller Street and the alley between Fuller Street and Atwood Street north of 1st Avenue. The city is anticipated to open bids March 30 with City Council awarding a contract in April. Construction would be performed between May and September. Council orders improvements for 2021 Alley Reconstruction Project
Following a public hearing, the City Council ordered improvements and preparation of plans and specifications for the 2021 Alley Reconstruction Project. The project includes reconstruction of the alleys between Fuller Street and Lewis Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue with concrete pavement. Council appoints residents to boards
The City Council made the following appointments:
- Parks and Recreation Advisory Board: Dan Griffiths, Ashley Nuckolls, Brendan Van Alstyne
- Planning Commission/BOAA: Jesse Lara
- Police Civil Service Commission: Chad Kraayenbrink
- Shakopee Public Utilities Commission: Justin Krieg, Benedict Letourneau

Council sets McKenna Road speed limit
The City Council authorized posting the recommended 50 MPH speed limit zone for McKenna Road between Eagle Creek Boulevard and Tintaocanku. The Minnesota Department of Transportation recommended the limit after conducting a speed zone investigation. The road previously did not have a posted speed limit. Council approves park restroom cleaning contract
The City Council approved a contract with Treasure Enterprises, Inc. in the amount of $35,438.39 for park restroom cleaning from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. More information: Keith Raines, Parks Maintenance Supervisor, 952-233-9368.
City accepts grant for Clean Up Day events
The City Council accepted a Scott County grant in the amount of $21,445.84 to assist in funding Shakopee’s spring and fall Clean Up Day events. The sub-grant is offered through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Environmental Assistance Local Recycling Development Grant. The annual estimated combined cost for the two Clean Up Day events is $80,000. Additional funding is provided by gate fees and the city’s street maintenance fund.
