Parklets coming to downtown Shakopee
The City Council approved the purchase of Streetdeck modular units from Archatrack in the amount of $300,000 for the design and installation of five parklets for downtown Shakopee. The temporary parklets will be used seasonally to provide downtown businesses with additional outdoor seating space for dining. The units can be disassembled for winter storage. The parklets will be funded from the federal American Rescue Plan to aid tourism, travel and hospitality industries. City purchases land near Canterbury Park for redevelopment
Acting as the Economic Development Authority, the City Council approved the purchase of property west of the Scott County Workforce Center in the amount of $818,000 from Scott County. The 5-acre parcel, which will be held for future sale, is anticipated to assist with further redevelopment of Canterbury Commons. Council approves plats for development projects
The City Council approved several plats to make way for upcoming developments:
- Final plat of Whispering Waters First Addition. KRB Development VIII LLC plans to build 134 single-family lots on 59.6 acres at 7556 Eagle Creek Blvd. The final plat of the first addition creates 74 lots, mainly on the northern and eastern part of the site. The houses will be built by Key Land Homes, OneTenTen Construction and Brandl Anderson. More information: Kyle Sobota, Senior Planner, 952-233-9349.
- Preliminary plat of Windermere South Fifth Addition. D.R. Horton, Inc. - Minnesota plans to construct 101 single-family residential lots with an outlot for future development on approximately 72.5 acres, located north of County Highway 78, west of Zumbro Avenue and east of County Highway 69/Old Brick Yard Road. The homes will be consistent with other houses in the Windermere neighborhood. More information: Mark Noble, Senior Planner, 952-233-9348.
- Final plat of outlots for La Tour Terrace. The property is included in the Windermere South Fifth Addition. However, the applicant requested the plat to create a separate deedable parcel it intends to purchase with the second outlot to be retained by the owner. City annexes, rezones 91 acres in west Shakopee
The City Council approved the annexation of 91.34 acres located within Jackson Township into city limits. The property is located east of Highway 169, north of County Highway 78 and west of County Highway 69/Old Brickyard Road. The council also voted to rezone the property to Agricultural Preservation (AG) Zone. The property is guided in the 2040 Comp Plan as Mixed Employment Center, which is comparable to business park and light industry zoning; however, no final plans have been determined. Council to seek bids for construction of Jennifer Lane Park
The City Council approved plans and specifications and ordered advertisement for bids for the Jennifer Lane Neighborhood Park Project. The new park will be constructed on city-owned land at the southwest corner of the intersection of Jennifer Lane and Meadow Court. Bid opening is scheduled for June 23. Downtown Farmers Market moves to River City Centre parking lot
The City Council approved the closure of the River City Centre parking lot as the site of the Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau Downtown Famers Market, which will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Fridays, June 4 to Oct. 29. More information: www.downtownshakopee.org
City to re-evaluate sewer project
The City Council rejected all bids for the 2020 SCADA System Improvements Project based on higher-than-expected bid amounts. The project is intended to upgrade the city’s automated supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that monitors the city’s sanitary and storm sewer systems. Staff will evaluate repackaging the project with the L16 Rehabilitation Project or potentially change the project scope. More information: Darin Manning, Project Coordinator, 952-233-9364.
City gratefully accepts sponsorship funds
The City Council accepted monetary donations from five businesses who have sponsored various 2021 Parks and Recreation programs and events: O’Brien’s Public House ($2,700), American Family Insurance - Nate Atkinson ($2,700), Metro Dance Academy ($2,800), Old National Bank ($1,000) and Shutterfly ($1,000 donation).
Twin Cities Summer Jam gets extended concert hours
The City Council approved an extension of the city noise ordinance until 11 p.m. July 22-24 for the Twin Cities Summer Jam to be held at Canterbury Park. More information: Michael Kerski, Director of Planning and Development, 952-233-9346.
