City purchases first electric vehicle

The City Council approved the purchase of a 2021 Mach-e all-electric vehicle in the amount of $48,870 from Ford of Hibbing. This is the city’s first electric vehicle and will help the city explore the use of an electric vehicle fleet in reducing the city’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Council supports moving forward with property maintenance code

In a workshop setting, the City Council gave consensus support to moving forward with a property maintenance ordinance that establishes regulations for property owners to maintain interior and exterior building standards. Similar to a state building code, the International Property Maintenance Code sets maintenance standards for residential properties. The council is anticipated to approve the code later this summer. Council discusses future of Marystown Road Corridor

In a workshop setting, the City Council reviewed past studies of the Marystown Road Corridor, which stretches from Adams Street to 17th Avenue. The council discussed issues along this stretch of highway, which has been impacted by continued development in the area. The council provided consensus on the issues and needed improvements, directing city staff to champion the improvements. The next steps include continued public outreach, county and state coordination, evaluating and implementing interim safety measures and continuing to seek state and federal funding. City to seek bids for new trail in Southbridge

The City Council approved plans and specifications and ordered the advertisement for bids for the Red Oak School Trail Project. The project includes constructing a multi-use bituminous trail on city-owned property between Southbridge Parkway and County Highway 21. More info: Adam Bentson, Graduate Engineer, 952-233-9323.

City awards contract for downtown alley reconstruction

The City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $138,143 to BKJ Land Co. for the 2021 Alley Reconstruction Project. The project includes reconstructing the alleys between First and Second Avenues with concrete from Lewis Street to Fuller Street. More info: Adam Bentson, Graduate Engineer, 952-233-9323.

Parking restrictions coming to Stagecoach Road, Atwood Street

The City Council approved the following no parking restrictions:

  • Stagecoach Road from County Highway 101 to 700 feet east of the new Stagecoach Roundabout.
  • Atwood Street from Fourth Avenue to Fifth Avenue. This is necessary for a new MVTA transit stop.
