Should Winter Storms Be Named Woodbury or Eagan?

Do you remember Winter Storm Orko? Chances are you and your friends searched for “Orko” on Google and Twitter in February.

Last winter was the first time the Weather Channel named winter storms. They’re continuing the practice this year. Why?

“The winter storm names enabled simpler and more focused communications around forecasts and preparedness information on The Weather Channel and in other media outlets, and during the big storms like Nemo, the names became a handy way for the public to receive and exchange information,” Bryan Norcross of The Weather Channel said in a news release.

This year the names are based on Roman and Greek mythology and were developed with a Latin class in Bozeman, MT.
