The 5,600-square foot branch office is located at 8001 Old Carriage Court (i.e. southwest of the intersection of Highways 169 and Hwy 21).

SMFCU has been a leader in integrating the latest financial technology to benefit customer education, security and access via online and mobile. “Our new branch office in Southbridge Center is really an opportunity to open our doors to the larger southwestern Twin Cities’ community and highlight our innovative spin on what a credit union can and should be,” Crofut adds.

The new branch location will showcase SMFCU’s products and services with a nine-screen interactive video wall, visible to passing motorists and available to serve branch office visitors. SMFCU will use this wall and other online and mobile applications to roll out new services and access points throughout 2015 for its more than 3,700 members, who span multiple generations.

Over the last several years, credit unions as financial institutions have grown in their breadth of offerings amidst changing and rising consumer expectations.

“Our members look to us as their trusted advisor and resource for all of their financial needs,” Crofut says. SMFCU prides itself on knowing its members. “We greet our members personally and have the training and knowledge on staff to provide more in-depth education and tools for helping our members learn and grow as their financial objectives change.”

The opening of the new SMFCU branch office and expanded access to services comes as the Shakopee community and environs is gaining national attention. The area’s growing infrastructure, population and improved telecommunications and broadband capabilities are raising the area’s attractiveness as a desirable location for companies to do business. Companies new to the Shakopee area or that plan to locate there include Shutterfly, Amazon (a proposed distribution center), Data Stream and Emerson Electric (opened a $70 million headquarters building in 2014).

Meanwhile, the area’s positioning of River South as the entertainment district of the Twin Cities is also catching on. New housing and increased real estate development along with environmental efforts to support and preserve the river valley area’s natural habitat and community livability are continuing to attract a younger demographic.
