State Patrol Involved In Chain-Reaction Crash On Highway 169

Injuries and massive traffic delays in the south metro resulted from a crash Thursday involving a Minnesota State Patrol squad car.

SHAKOPEE, MN — Two people were injured on Highway 169 Thursday after a Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) squad car was struck while at a traffic stop. The crash occurred at 12:35 p.m. and involved thee vehicles. The incident led to massive traffic back ups for miles on the highway.

The squad car was on a traffic stop on northbound Highway 169 at the exit ramp to County Road 21. A 2001 Chevy Malibu was driving north in the left lane when it suddenly swerved towards the trooper, according to MSP.

Before the squad was hit, the Malibu was broadsided by a 2012 Chevy Silverado, causing it to strike the squad car in the rear left side of the vehicle.

The driver of the Malibu, Chad Michael Allen, 29, of Duluth, was transported to HCMC for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, Amy Jane Puncochar, 55, of New Prague also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Michael Lee Fredrickson, the trooper in the squad car, did not suffer injury.
