Severe Weather Awareness Week Coming In Wright County April 12-16
As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, there will be two annual statewide tornado drills, which are scheduled for Thursday, April 15.

Each year, Wright County Emergency Management and Homeland Security and Emergency Management in collaboration with the National Weather Service sponsors Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. This year, it will be conducted April 12-16.

Severe Weather Awareness Week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. It also serves as a time for individuals, family and businesses to create and practice an emergency plan as well as building or refreshing an emergency preparedness kit.
As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, there will be two annual statewide tornado drills, which are scheduled for Thursday, April 15. The first drill is intended for institutions and businesses. The evening drill is intended for second-shift workers and families. The two drills are scheduled for approximately 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The annual Severe Weather Awareness Week is conducted because, on average, Minnesota has 28 tornado touchdowns per year. In 2018, there were 44 confirmed tornadoes. In 2010, the all-time modern record was set with a whopping 113 tornado touch-downs.
