St. Michael Family to Host Alex’s Lemonade Stand to Raise Funds to Fight Childhood Cancer

The Madigan children will open the stand Wednesday, Aug. 14.

In an effort to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer, the Madigan family of St. Michael will host their third annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.

Eight-year-old Josh and 10-year-old Liz Madigan, with the help of their parents and grandparents, will hold their annual lemonade stand complete with lemonade, cookies and brownies at 4609 Melina Court NE in St. Michael, according to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

“We do it because we care about fighting cancer. No one deserves cancer, and we want to help find a cure for it,” the siblings shared on the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Fountain webpage.

Their goal is to raise $175. Donations are also accepted online, according to the Foundation.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) started from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) of Connecticut. In 2000, four-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million, funding over 300 research projects nationally, according to the organization.
