St. Michael Stylist Participates in Spread The Love Program

Suzy Henningsgard of St. Michael knew she had to apply to be part of Matrix hair care's Spread the Love program as soon as she read about it in a style magazine.

"I was so inspired by the program that I knew I wanted to be part of it," Henningsgard said last week. The Spread the Love program is run by Matrix with the idea that these young stylists can use not only their fresh skills and In thideas but also share and give to others.

In the programs second year, Henningsgard and five other stylists from the nation travelled the United States speaking at schools, salons, businesses and getting involved in local communities.

Over 250 stylists applied and from that 20 of the applicants were flown to New York for interviews and six were chosen to participate. Twenty-seven year old Henningsgard is the first Minnesotan to participate in the program.

Henningsgard, who has been working as a stylist at since August 2010, was gone for nearly 6 months and visited over 20 different states throughout the time.

"We met so many people and were able to give back so much," she said upon returning last week. Charity work was what was the most influential part of her time away. "Hairdressers are often able to see first hand domestic violence and we need to be doing something about that. We can change lives in 45 minutes by being more in tune," she said.

Home now and already fully immersed back in life in St. Michael and styling hair at Artisan, she has big hopes and dreams for the future. "I'd love to become an educator for Matrix and also involve myself and Artisan moe in the community," she said.
