2 Woodbury Schools On DOH's Coronavirus Outbreak List

The list includes schools that have recently reported five or more cases of COVID-19.

WOODBURY, MN— Two Woodbury schools are on the Minnesota Department of Health's COVID-19 breakout list, the department reported Thursday.

Woodbury High School and Lake Middle School have reported a recent outbreaks of COVID-19, the department said.

Pepé Barton, director of communications and community relations for ISD 833, told Patch that through contract tracing, the district has determined that these cases resulted from activities outside of school.

"For each case in South Washington County Schools, we contact trace to determine close contacts and whether others need to stay home for 14 days under quarantine," Barton said. "Woodbury High School and Lake Middle School do not have a widespread outbreak. Instead, all cases have been the result of family relationships or behaviors outside of school. Our system for quickly identifying and quarantining students or staff has allowed us to prevent widespread transmission within our schools."

In order to be removed from the list, the schools need to go 28 days without reporting a new case, the department said.

In order to be added to the list, a school must report at least five cases of a student or staff member being inside the building while infectious and within the two-week reporting period, the department said.

Washington County has a total of seven schools on the list, jumping from the two that were on the list two weeks ago.

The list is updated weekly on Thursdays.

Both of these schools are new since Patch's last report on this topic.
