The East Metro Symphony Orchestra (EMSO) presents A Mighty Fortress - Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony

The East Metro Symphony Orchestra (EMSO) is proud to announce the first program of its 2017-2018 Season of Celebrations concert season. A Mighty Fortress will be presented on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury, MN. Admission to this concert is free. Free will offerings in support of the orchestra’s work in the community are always appreciated.

Corresponding with the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, the centerpiece of A Mighty Fortress will be Felix Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony. The concert will also feature EMSO’s new concertmaster, Joan Molloy, performing Antonio Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in G minor and special performances by the King of Kings Lutheran Church’s King’s Choir, Brass Ensemble, and JuBELLation Handbell Choir. A meet-and-greet with orchestra members and refreshments will immediately follow the performance.

“The Mendelssohn Reformation Symphony is not just a profound musical commemoration of a key moment in church history, but a compelling journey through the stages of life, including joy, tragedy, and a culminating powerful affirmation of life centered around the great hymn, A Mighty Fortress is Our God,” states EMSO Music Director Elizabeth P. Barnes. Chris Vorrie, King of Kings’ Director of Worship and Arts, concurs, “For such a momentous celebration in our church history, we are thrilled to be able to celebrate with EMSO and our own musical ensembles.”
