EMSO presents Svensk musik och dans (Swedish Music and Dance)
The East Metro Symphony Orchestra will present two performances of a cultural celebration of Swedish classical and folk music

The East Metro Symphony Orchestra (EMSO) will present Svensk musik och dans (Swedish Music and Dance), a cultural celebration of Swedish classical and folk music. EMSO will offer two performances of the program: First on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 South Robert Street, West Saint Paul, MN. Admission is free for this performance. Free will offerings in support of the orchestra’s work in the community are always appreciated. A special encore performance will be presented on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute (ASI), 2600 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. Encore concert tickets are available in advance online through the ASI’s website, www.asimn.org: $10 ASI members and $15 general admission.
To help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Twin Cities Nyckelharpalag and the 100th anniversary of the Twin Cities Swedish Folk Dancers, EMSO is partnering with both groups to create a special collaborative mix of classical pieces by Swedish composers as well as traditional Swedish folk music and dance. This event will showcase the nyckleharpa (key fiddle) and Swedish folk dance performances, while EMSO performs traditional classical orchestra music based on these Swedish folk traditions, including familiar works by Hugo Alfven; U.S. premieres of works by Kurt Atterberg and Karl-Johan Ankarblom; and a world premiere featuring all three ensembles created especially for this event by Northfield, MN-based composer Daniel Kallman. Both concerts will offer the opportunity for the audience to meet-and-greet with orchestra members and guest performers along with refreshments following the performance. Admission to Wednesday’s concert will include access to the ASI museum before the concert begins. ASL interpretation is available from VSA Minnesota when requested. Please contact EMSO before May 7, 2018 to request ASL interpretation.
Svensk musik och dans(Swedish Music and Dance) is the final performance in EMSO’s 2017-2018 Season of Celebrations concert season. Visit www.emsorch.org for more season information.
