Girl Dies 3 Weeks After Woodbury Assault: Complaint

The woman's charges have been updated to second degree murder and second degree assault.

WOODBURY, MN — The young girl who was assaulted by a Woodbury woman died Wednesday morning after being taken off life support, according to a new criminal complaint filed in Minnesota's 10th Judicial District Court.

Sadiyo Ibrahim Mohamed is facing upgraded charges of second degree murder and second degree assault, officials said. If found guilty she could face up to 47 years in prison and also pay a fine of $14,000, officials said.

Mohamed is accused of chasing two children in the street and assaulting them with an unidentified object on May 27.

Police who responded found Mohamed chasing a young boy in the street, officials said. Officers then heard people screaming about a "dead baby" and found the girl, between 5-6 years old, laying in the street unresponsive, police said. Both children were taken to Regions Hospital, officials said.

The girl was determined to have a skull fracture, brain bleed, a lacerated liver, and broken ribs, and she was covered in cuts and bruises, officials said.

According to police, Mohamed told them she suffers from a mental illness and had not been taking her medication for a couple of months.
