Petition Started To Create Roundabout At Location Of Deadly Crash

The petition currently has over 3,500 signatures.

WOODBURY, MN— In response to a petition that was started last week to add a roundabout near the scene of a crash that killed a teenage boy in Woodbury, Mayor Anne Burt issued a statement saying the investigation needs to be completed before deciding what steps — if any — to take next.

“We are shocked and saddened by this tragic crash and express our deepest condolences to everyone impacted," Burt said. "Woodbury Police Department detectives continue to gather evidence and information, and conduct interviews. We are also awaiting the results of the Minnesota State Patrol’s crash reconstruction. We are just as anxious as members of the community to know all the facts, but a thorough investigation takes time, and it’s critical we get it right.

“Safety on the roadways is a priority of the city. Before deciding what, if any, action needs to occur next, it’s important to first complete the investigation and reconstruction as they will provide critical information on the nature and basis of this accident," Burt said. "It could take several weeks before we have the information we need, and we ask for the community’s patience as we all grieve and wait for its development.”

The petition currently has over 3,700 signatures and is aiming for 5,000. Many residents have shown their support of this petition.

"There needs to be a change, so this doesn't happen again," Lynn Bruski said.

Others brought up concerns about the speed limit as well.

"It could save so many lives and would be a great reminder for people not to speed around that area because there’s lots of kids living in the neighborhood," Emma Klukas said.

"I am signing as I am all for slowing down traffic on that road. Even a stop sign would be nice," Elizabeth Hughes said.

But most of all, residents want to honor Bumgarner and ensure that an accident like the one that killed him never happens again.

Patch reached out the the Woodbury Police Department to find out more about how many crashes have occurred in this area.

Police Commander John Altman told Patch that at the intersection of Sundance Way and Settlers Ridge Parkway, one crash has occurred since 2011, with no crashes in the previous year.
