Portillo's Is Definitely Coming To Woodbury: What To Expect

The Maple Grove City Council may not want a Portillo's​, but the restaurant is expected to open its Woodbury location this summer.

WOODBURY, MN — The Maple Grove City Council may not want a Portillo's, but the restaurant's Woodbury location is well on its way to becoming reality. Back in December 2016, frigid temperatures and a little snow did not stop a groundbreaking for Portillo's there as government officials celebrated the restaurant chain in their community. The Portillo's in Woodbury is expected to be 9,000 square feet.

Portillo's CEO, Keith Kinsey, said the new location would serve as springboards for further expansion in the region.

Portillo's has already expanded to Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana and Wisconsin.

The Portillo's in Woodbury will feature 1920s Prohibition-era décor that will include photos of Chicago-based gangsters, such as Al Capone, according to a news release. The restaurant plans to open the Woodbury location this summer, WCCO reported.

The four-acre site includes demolition of an existing building, new site utilities, curbs, asphalt paving, and site improvements. The restaurant location, which is being built by Novak Construction, has precast structures with full brick exterior, patio and architectural steel elements.

Background

Portillo’s, a popular drive-in selling Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs, hamburgers, and salads, is known for its old-school style of taking orders — which are written in pencil on a white paper bag.
