Video Shows Aftermath of Fatal NE Minnesota Storm

Two were killed after severe storms ripped through northeastern Minnesota.

Residents of northeastern Minnesota woke up to learn of serious damage, and two fatalities, caused by severe thunderstorms that ripped through the area late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

CBS News reported that two people on a Boy Scouts of America camping trip were killed early Thursday in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, near the Canadian border.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said the two injured campers were evacuated from the wilderness area by air.

The Star Tribune reported that a seaplane was sent to rescue the campers, who phoned in a distress call around 5:15 a.m. The injured campers were taken to a hospital in Ely. Authorities did not say how the two were killed.

Nine people in total were on the camping trip when storms hit. Early reports indicate two fatalities occurred on the Canadian side while several people were injured on the U.S. side of the border.
