WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN— Washington County will be added to the DNR's list of counties under burn restrictions, the DNR said.

The burn restriction is to prevent wildfires, the DNR said.

“Wildfire danger is especially high in April and May because we have dry conditions with no snow protection,” Casey McCoy, DNR fire prevention supervisor, said. “Once the landscape ‘greens up’ fire danger goes down—but until then, restrictions reduce the potential for wildfires.”
The DNR said they will not issue burning permits for yard waste in these counties until the burn restrictions are lifted.

If residents choose to continue to burn yard waste and the fire escapes and burns a neighboring property, they will be fined the DNR said.
To get rid of yard waste, the DNR recommends composting, chipping, or bringing it to a collection site.
