Free Quit Smoking Clinic in Hancock and Pearl River County

Free Quit Smoking Clinic Available to Residents in Hancock and Pearl River Counties

According to the American Lung Association in Mississippi’s 2021 “State of Tobacco Control” report, 20.4% of residents smoke cigarettes, which is significantly higher than the national average of 14%. That’s why the Lung Association is offering a free Freedom From Smoking Clinic to residents in Hancock and Pearl River Counties. The next group clinic begins on Monday, May 17 and runs for six weeks.

The American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® helps individuals create their own unique quit plan, as well as tips and techniques to stay successful in the long run. Freedom From Smoking can be accessed online, at a group clinic and through a self-guided workbook. Those looking to quit smoking are encouraged to use the method that works best for their learning style, schedule and unique quit smoking plan.

“Spring is the perfect time to take stock of your health, and look forward to the future,” said Brittney Johnson, project director for the Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition of Hancock and Pearl River Counties. “With the promise of outdoor activities, there is ample opportunity to modify or change behaviors that lead to smoking addiction and ways to see how much better you can feel when you are completely smokefree.”

Freedom From Smoking is ranked as the most effective smoking cessation program in a study of 100 managed care organizations conducted by Fordham University Graduate School of Business and has helped hundreds of thousands participants quit smoking.

The local Freedom From Smoking clinic will be offered via Zoom at 11am for six weeks for a total of seven classes. The cost is free.
