How An Arnold Woman's Dog Saved Her From Attacker During Break-In

She says the man tricked her into opening her door by pretending his car ran out of gas.

ARNOLD, MO — An Arnold, Missouri, woman said her dog "saved my life" by scaring off a would-be intruder, who tricked her into opening her door and then punched her in the face when she refused to give him money.

The woman, who didn't want to be identified citing safety concerns, told KTVI-TV in St. Louis a man told her he needed money because his car ran out of gas. She couldn't hear him well, so she opened the door. When she declined to give him money, she said he reached in and "punched me in my face."

She said the assailant likely thought no one else was in the home. But suddenly, the woman found herself with an unlikely ally: her dog.

Sony, who the woman rescued two years ago, sprung into action and charged at her owner's attacker, scaring him away. The woman called her dog a "hero."

Authorities are looking for a man roughly 50 years old who stands between 6 feet and 6 feet five inches tall and has multiple missing front teeth. The suspect was wearing a denim jacket, a black and white baseball style cap and jeans.

Arnold is located about 17 miles southwest of St. Louis.
