Missouri's College Of The Ozarks Mandates Freshmen Take Patriotism Course

The move comes amid a backdrop of some U.S. athletes protesting by taking a knee during the national anthem.

POINT LOOKOUT, MO — Freshman at the College of the Ozarks, an evangelical Christian college in Point Lookout, Missouri, now have to take a class aimed that promotes patriotism. The college held an event Monday to unveil the military science class, Patriotic Education and Fitness.

The course seeks to teach students about modern military customs, U.S. politics and flag protocol. It will also teach rifle marksmanship, map reading and rope knotting.

Patriotic education "must be taught, it must be modeled and it must be emphasized," College President Jerry Davis said.
