Affton Man Stole Car From Body Shop After Swiping Keys, Police Say

An Affton man is accused of stealing a car from a body repair shop in the Affton area Friday.

James R. Porter IV, 23, of the 8500 block of Webshire Lane in Affton, was charged Tuesday with stealing a motor vehicle.

St. Louis County Police said Porter was riding a bicycle by Hunter Auto Body at 8014 Gravois Road Friday when he spotted a set of keys in a 2006 Honda Civic at the shop awaiting repair. Police said Porter took the keys and returned after the business closed and stole the car.

The car was recovered several days later at an apartment complex. A witness said Porter had the car.

Porter is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $20,000.
