Watch Girls JV Soccer vs. Riverview Gardens, Coach is Hopeful for Districts

The Cougars varsity girls soccer team is young, but could do well in Districts.

The Affton JV soccer girls faced Riverview Gardens on Friday next to the home baseball game against DuBourg.

The boys shut out DuBourg 7-0 and the girls beat Riverview 1-0.

The varsity girls are 6-10-1 on the season, defeating Berkley 10-0 on Monday.

Coach Brian Mesplay said the varsity team is struggling with consistency.

"Part of that is that we are extremely young. We've got 10 sophomores on the team," he said.

He said they've struggled in goal a bit too, which doesn't help when you're not scoring a lot of goals.

"We've done some good things at times, if not consistently enough to get over the hump against some teams of quality," he said.

He's optimistic for Districts, though.

"I'm confident that we can fair pretty well in Districts," he said, listing DuBourg, Lutheran South and others in the tournament.

"We lost to DuBourg early 1-0. It all depends on who shows up on what day," he said.
