Kimmswick's 100 Days of Shoes

The City of Kimmswick and the Friends of the Kimmswick Post Office are sponsoring a shoe drive from July 24 to October 31, 2012.

Not just any shoe drive, but a 100 day shoe drive with the goal of collecting 100,000 pairs of shoes. The shoes will be distributed to supporting nonprofit organizations throughout the drive.

The shoe drive will begin on July 24, 2012 and have a grand finale at the annual Apple Butter Festival which is held during the last weekend in October with over 100,000 visitors. This year's 36th annual Apple Butter Festival dates are October 27th and 28th. The shoe drive will officially close with all shoes distributed on October 31, 2012.

Shoes can be left at the Kimmswick City Hall on Third and Oak Streets in Kimmswick, Missouri 63053. Other shoe drops will be announced as they become available and during the Apple Butter Festival there will be signs indicating shoe drop spots. To assure proper conveyance and to not inconvenience shop owners in Kimmswick, donors are encouraged to use only officially designated shoe drops.

Shoes can also be shipped to the 100 Days of Shoes Project, City of Kimmswick, P.O. Box 27, Kimmswick, Missouri 63053 or Kimmswick City Hall, 6041 Third Street, Kimmswick Missouri 63053.

Interested nonprofit organizations that distribute food and clothing can sign up to receive shoes. A copy of a tax-exempt certificate is required. Nonprofits should contact Michael Erbschloe via email at michaelerbschloe@cityofkimmswick.org or by telephone at 314-221-1886. Michael also coordinates sponsorships and volunteers.

The shoes will be redistributed as is and the recipient agency is responsible for any cleaning or sanitizing program they choose to implement. When possible, shoes in poor condition will be recycled.

Celebrity shoes and selected vintage and retro shoes will be auctioned or sold in lots to help cover the expenses for the shoe drive. Any funds remaining after the shoe drive is over will be used to help restore the Historic Kimmswick Post Office on Front Street in Kimmswick. Celebrities are encouraged to enclose an autographed photograph to help authenticate the source of the donation.
