Arnold Tailor Talks About the Lost Art of Sewing

Arnold's Sew For U tailoring and alterations boutique at 108 Richardson's Crossing is keeping alive a lost art.

Is sewing a lost art?

Aurelia Zidaru, owner of Sew For U, 108 Richard's Crossing, Arnold, sadly shakes her head "yes," pointing out that it's not taught in the schools any more.

But while Zidaru rues the idea that her craft is fading away, it has helped keep her business alive for the past five years. Whether you need a button sewn back on, a broken zipper replaced, or a pair of pants hemmed, Zidaru is ready to carry out all of those tasks. She also does a fair amount of alterations on prom and bridesmaid dresses.

"I do everything people need," she said last week, "I haven't had any complaints."

Zidaru also can make a dress from scratch if that's something people need, she said. Or re-sew a stuffed pillow that is in danger of becoming unstuffed.
