Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis say the 34-year-old woman found dead in Imperial on Sunday is from Jefferson County.

However, police are awaiting preliminary autopsy results to make a positive identification, said Capt. Mark Tulgetske with the Major Case Squad.

"The post-mortem isn't scheduled until 4 p.m. today," he said. "We're not sure when the results will come in. But we won't be releasing any more information on the case until then."

On Sunday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department received a call around 8:30 a.m. about a person who was possibly intoxicated laying in the woods near Butler Valley Drive, Tulgetske said. When deputies arrived, they determined the woman was dead.

The Major Case Squad, which is investigating the case as a homicide, told KSDK there appeared to be some trauma to the woman's body, but that investigators were unable to determine a cause of death.
