No New Doe Run Facillty for Herculaneum

The decision marks the end for a 100-year relationship between the two entities.

Doe Run Co., said on Friday, that it will cancel its plans to built $100 million lead processing plant in Herculaneum.

Company spokesmen said the proposed plant would have significantly slashed lead emissions due to a new processing technique, reports the stltoday.com website.

The company will close the lead smelter in Herculaneum in 2013.

The closure could lead to a loss of, at least, 200 jobs in Jefferson County and taxes that supported a region of Jefferson County for more than 100 years.
