No Security Changes for Wehrenburg's Arnold Theater

The locally owned business already works with local police to enhance theater security on special movies' opening nights.

The Arnold Police Department and Wehrenberg's Arnold 14 Cine movie theater will run their standard enhanced security partnership for tonight's and this weekend's shows.

Neither the police or the St. Louis-based business felt more security was needed in Arnold after the fatal shooting at a Colorado movie theatre that premiered this weekend's Batman movie.

"We're a locally run business and already employ Arnold police to work at the theater on weekends and on opening nights of major movies," said Kelly Hoskins, the spokesperson for Wehrenberg's company headquarters, in a phone call with ArnoldPatch.

The officers will be working, in uniform and in plainclothes, inside and outside the theatre, Hoskins said.

She said that Wehrenberg will not follow the recent St. Louis movie theaters' decisions to ban costumes at tonight's showings.

"But we already have long-standing a policy banning masks but that is so children are not frightened at Halloween," Hoskins said.

To further help moviegoers feel comfortable this weekend, Wehrenberg employees will be more engaging and more talkative to customers, Hoskins said.

Employees will explain the mask policy and refer customers to the list of items that cannot be brought into the theatres.

Arnold Police Department Spokesman Maj. Nick McBroom said, in a separate phone call, said that the Arnold police regularly patrol the movie theatre on the weekends to prevent rowdy crowds or pushing-and-shoving matches that commonly occur at crowded movie theaters.

"And let's be honest, that's Colorado," McBroom said, "We are in Arnold."

Two very different groups of people with different perspectives.
