Ribbon Cutting: Arnold Historical Society on July 11

The will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location at 1723 Jeffco Blvd., on Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m.

“A contest for St. Louis Cardinal baseball game tickets will occur and finger foods andrefreshments will be served to the public,” President Bernie Wilde said about the event. She is hoping to have barbeque foods available at the event.

The new location, with 1,838 square feet, is more than twice the size the historical society had at its former location in an 800-square-foot trailer located at Ferd B. Lang Park, Wilde said.

The museum is divided into six rooms named after the villages—Beck, Flamm City, Maxville, Old Town Arnold, Tenbrook and Wickes—that created the City of Arnold, she said.

The museum holds an U.S. veteran’s wool uniform from World War I, land deeds from 1853, items from Ms. Buffalo Bill Cody, Native American arrowheads, historical quilts and other items that hold the history of the City of Arnold and its citizens.

Building renovations currently cost about $76,000 and are worth the opportunity to display the city’s history, Wilde said.

“I hope Arnold’s children will see grandma’s and grandpa’s life before Arnold (existed), will be able to connect with the area and share it with the next generations,” Wilde said about the museum.

The new location allows Wilde, and her husband Roy, to fully display historical artifacts that have been stored for about six years in the basements of their two homes.

Wilde said her husband’s home is a historical building and her home is custom-made to accommodate modern health care needs.
