Two Jefferson County MO Army National Guardsmen Earn Bronze Stars

Guardsmen from Arnold and Imperial earned their medals for helping deliver $2.7 billion in supplies and for escorting 4,900 Afghan trucks to support units.

BAGRAM AIRBASE, Afghanistan – Staff sergeants Paul D. Streit, of Arnold, and Robb A. Breck, of Imperial,  who assigned to the St. Louis-based 1138th Transportation Company, are about to end a 10-month operations mission in Afghanistan.

Army Secretary John M. McHugh cited Streit and Breck, in their award certificates, for their exceptional service supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, for their performance, dedication to duty and to the success of the unit’s mission, said a National Guard news release.

“The distinct accomplishments of (Staff Sgt. Streit and Staff Sgt. Breck) reflect great credit upon himself, the 1138th Transportation Company, Task Force 142, the 10th Sustainment Brigade, Joint Sustainment Command-Afghanistan and the United States Army,” the certificate read.

As part of Task Force 142, the 1138th conducted more than 90 missions covering a total of 847,000 miles, delivered about $2.7 billion in supplies to  operating bases located in austere and treacherous terrain.

Also, the unit escorted more than 4,900 Afghan-owned trucks carrying critical vehicles and equipment to support units located in eastern Afghanistan and helped dispose of unused ammunition.

The 1138th Transportation Company is headquartered at historic Jefferson Barracks in south St. Louis County and is a subordinate unit of the 311th Brigade Support Battalion, based in Lexington.

The unit is scheduled to return to the U.S. this spring.
