
Ballwin senior Rebecca Robinson is a semifinalist for the 2012 National Achievement Scholarship Program, which honors Black American youth with outstanding scholastic records.
Robinson, a senior at , was one of more than 160,000 students who entered the scholarship competition when she took last year's Preliminary SAT test, and one of about 16,000 to be named a semifinalist, the school district announced Wednesday.
The program is run under the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and is expected to accept less than 2,000 students to the finals.

In order to be in the select group of finalists, Robinson must be endorsed by a high school principal, write an essay, earn a qualified SAT score and demonstrate "a record of high academic performance," in addition to an application completed by the student and a high school official.
